Myers-Briggs type indicator

The MBTI personality test questionnaire was developed a long time ago, and was created by the well-known psychology researcher Carl Gustav Jung. He noticed certain correlations among people regarding perception of the world, decision-making and energy management. For this Isabel Briggs Myers with her mother Katherine Cook Briggs developed his theory. Thanks to them, we have an accurate model of personality, which is almost as often used as the famous Big Five model.

But a large group of people still defend this model, or use it for fun. Perhaps for some people, this model is more effective and the personality is a better fit. Either way, it’s worth taking this test, because you can always learn something about yourself.

Extraversion – Introversion

This dimension measures how a person has internal energy. Extroverts are people who get their energy for life from their surroundings. Interactions with other people give them the power to act. Attention is directed outward, extroverts focus on others and work better in a group. When they are alone, they feel tired and lose energy. Introverts, on the other hand, have the opposite, excessive interaction with people can be extremely tiring for them. They get their energy from within, meaning they focus on their feelings, thoughts, ideas. They work best alone, time spent alone propels them into action.

Sensing – Intuition

These factors determine how you gather information and how you perceive the world. Sensing means that you care first and foremost about facts and reality. You don’t like understatement, mystery and uncertainty. You want to rely on science and things that can be investigated. You like clear and simple answers. Intuition, on the other hand, means you rely on guesswork. You don’t need a clearly presented case to form an opinion on a subject. You see all sorts of connections and look for meaning where it is not obvious and readily available. You are simply guided by intuition, which sometimes leads you in the right direction and sometimes fails you.

Thinking – Feeling

These two different factors determine how you make decisions. Thinking, of course, means thinking rationally, being guided by logical facts, a sense of justice and general moral values. You rarely change your mind and firmly defend your opinion. In contrast, people in whom feeling is stronger are more likely to be guided by emotions. They try to take into account many different value systems, for them the world is not black and white. They change their minds more often and rely on their subjective feelings, which can be changeable.

Judging – Perceiving

Here, factors take many things into account – lifestyle, work, worldview, coping. Judging means that you are more organized and have a specific plan for life that you stick to. Judgment means specific decision-making. Such people are more decisive and know what they want. Perceiving, on the other hand, means a more flexible and vague lifestyle. You don’t have one plan, you take into account that you can change your mind. These people are more open-minded, constantly seeking new information and rediscovering the world.
