The Boys is a superhero-drama television series based on comic books series of the same title. It tells a story of a group of vigilantes standing against the superheroes who abuse their powers instead of using them for good. The Boys go on a difficult journey to expose the ugly truth about The Seven, a group of celebrity superheroes who flaunt amicable public personas but do evil things in secret.
The Boys’ leader is Billy Butcher, a suave smooth talker, and a fearless vigilante. He has one mission in life – destroy the superheroes. The Homelander is his main nemesis, as Billy believes he killed his wife, Becca. Butcher is determined to get his revenge on the Homelander and he won’t let anything get in his way. He is played by Karl Urban.
Butcher’s friend and rival alike, and another member of The Boys, is Hughie Campbell. He’s yet another person to suffer a great loss at the hands of a supposed hero. Hughie’s girlfriend was accidentally killed by a superhuman speedster A-Train. Her death was the main reason he joined The Boys, hoping to get revenge for what happened. Hughie’s played by Jack Quaid.
The most mysterious member of The Boys is someone called The Female. Her real name is Kimiko Miyashiro and she’s the only woman on the squad. She was rescued from a cage in the basement under high security by The Boys, who thought she was a victim. As it turned out, she was way more dangerous than previously thought. The Female ends up being an unlikely ally to the vigilantes, and an unpredictable force – even for the Supes. Kimiko is played by Karen Fukuhara.
Homelander is the leader of The Seven and possibly the most powerful superhero alive. He has supernatural strength, super hearing, and can destroy things with his laser eyes. On the surface, Homelander presents as a perfect American hero, but in reality, he’s cold-blooded, amoral, and downright sociopathic. He does not care about humanity or doing good deeds. Homelander believes he’s superior to mere mortals, and even the other Supes are not quite on his level. He is played by Antony Starr.
Queen Maeve is the second most powerful member of The Seven. She possesses superhuman physical strength and durability. She used to be idealistic and really wanted to save the world. However, over time she had to conform to the image that was demanded from her and as a result, became cynical and burn-out. Despite Maeve being disillusioned towards the Supes world, there seems to be some kindness left in her still. Queen Maeve is played by Dominique McElligott.
The newest member of The Seven is Starlight, a superhero with the ability to manipulate light. She’s the girl next door type, devout Christian, and one of the few sincere superheroes. Starlight actually wants to protect innocent people. After learning about the true character of The Seven, she questions her loyalty to the group. Starlight is played by Erin Moriarty.
Other characters include Stormfront, a former Nazi and a member of The Seven with several abilities, including the ability to discharge burning energy from her hands. There is also Black Noir, a silent member of The Seven, who possesses superhuman strength and agility and conceals his physical appearance behind a dark costume. Another character is Frenchie, a member of the Boys and an international arms trafficker. After being coerced into joining to protect his criminal friends, he seeks redemption for his past crimes. He’s the only one who understands Kimiko and they have a unique bond. Those characters are played respectively by Aya Cash, Nathan Mitchell, and Tomer Capon.
The show premiered on July 26, 2019. Before the second season premiere, it was renewed for the third season. It is supposed to come out on June 3, 2022.
