Hello there and welcome back! Are you a fan of the Moon Knight, the new MCU series? If you are here, the answer is most likely yes. Have you wondered which Moon Knight character you are the most like? Do you feel a connection to any of the Moon Knight’s multiple personalities, or perhaps any other characters? Time to find out. We prepared the quiz for you to help you discover the answer to this question! Before you take the test, read on about the show. Warning – there might be spoilers!
Moon Knight tells the story of Marc Spector, a mercenary with Dissociative Personality Disorder developed due to his trauma. Spector gets involved with a deadly mystery involving Egyptian gods alongside his alters, including Steven Grant.
Oscar Isaac plays Marc Spector and his alters Steven Grant and Jake Lockley. Marc Spector is a Jewish-American mercenary, who becomes the avatar of the Egyptian god Khonshu, under the name of Moon Knight. Spector is a complex individual, sensitive, and at the same time guilty of harrowing things. As time goes on, the audience learns the circumstances in Spector’s life that lead him to become who he is, and can sympathize with him.
Steven Grant is a mild-mannered British gift-shop employee who becomes Mr. Knight, a hero with abilities granted by Khonshu. He is the first alternate personality that Marc develops as a result of his trauma due to his mother’s abuse. Grant does not have great social skills and is quite lonely, longing for a connection with someone, but not knowing how to achieve it. He’s not the bravest at the beginning, but with time becomes more heroic. Mr. Knight uses Grant’s knowledge of ancient Egypt to help get out of conflicts with wits and puzzle solving, which contrasts with Marc Spector’s more violent Moon Knight persona.
Jake Lockley is the secret third alternate personality of Marc Spector, who is revealed in the season finale (don’t say I didn’t warn you about spoilers!). Lockley is a personality developed somewhat later in Marc’s life, later emerging only when necessary to keep the other alters alive. Spector and Grant are not aware of his existence. Lockley is more ruthless than them and is Khonshu’s most-favored avatar.
Each DID persona is a distinct character with a different attitude. Actor Oscar Isaac put his input into his roles, deciding to give the alters different accents. Marc Spector speaks with Isaac’s own American accent, Steven Grant has a London English accent, and Jake Lockley speaks only in Spanish.
May Calamawy plays Layla El-Faouly aka Scarlet Scarab, Marc Spector’s wife who tracks him down after his Steven Grant personality has taken over control of his body for a longer time. El-Faouly becomes the Scarlet Scarab, the temporary avatar of the Egyptian goddess Taweret. The Egyptian goddess lends Layla superhuman strength, endurance, and agility, along with divine armor that can deflect bullets and magic. She is presented as a capable and intriguing character, one that even Khonshu himself considers worthy of becoming his next avatar. Through supporting her husband, El-Faouly develops more confidence and trust in herself.
Khonshu is the Egyptian god of the moon and the night sky, played by Karim El Hakim (providing on-set performance) and F. Murray Abraham (providing the voice). Banished by the other gods, he sought to punish evildoers through his avatars, known as Moon Knights. Khonshu uses Marc Spector to manipulate him into doing what he wants.
Arthur Harrow is a cult leader, who wants to resurrect the Egyptian goddess Ammit, so she can exact her judgment on the world. He used to be Khonshu’s avatar before Spector, but fell disillusioned with Khonshu and instead became devoted to Ammit. Harrow formed a cult of devoted disciples to find the tomb of the goddess and bring her back to life. I am not going to summarize the entire show for you, but ultimately, Harrow failed to do so (again, spoilers alert!). He is portrayed by Ethan Hawke. The actor has said to draw inspiration from cult leader David Koresh, Cuban president Fidel Castro, the Dalai Lama, Nazi officer and doctor Josef Mengele, and fictional character Nurse Ratched, amongst others. Hawke also portrays Doctor Harrow, a psychiatric doctor who only exists in the mind of Grant and Spector and who helps Grant confront the truth of his mother’s death.
Fun fact: do you know why Moon Knight’s costume is white? According to the comics screenwriter Warren Ellis, the hero wears white because he wants to be visible to his enemies. He wants them to see him coming – and to fear him, of course.
Are you ready? Do you want to find out which Moon Knight character are you? Do not wait up and take the quiz to get your answer. I am really curious which character you will get! Do not forget to share the link to the quiz with your friends.
