The Rocky Horror Picture Show – Legendary Musical

The famous classical comedy and horror musical, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, also known as just Rocky Horror, was released in 1975 by 20th Century Fox. It was directed by Jim Sharman and produced by Michael White and Lou Adler. The story was created by Sharman and Richard O’Brien, who is also one of the film’s actors. It is based on The Rocky Horror Show, a musical stage production released in 1973 by O’Brien.

Rocky Horror was inspired by low-budget science fiction and horror movies from the 30s to 60s. The movie features such stars as previously mentioned Richard O’Brien, Susan Sarandon, Tim Curry, and Barry Bostwick.

Origins And Production Process

The Rocky Horror Picture Show was shot at Oakley Court, an old country estate located at Bray Studios in the United Kingdom. It is a famous location which was previously used by Hammer Film Productions. Many set pieces and props used in the movie were used in the older horror productions by Hammer Film Productions. Sue Blane made good use of the Hammer’s and other costume parts. But what is interesting, she neither studied horror costumes nor conducted any research on class b movies’ designs. All of the film’s creations were her own original ideas. Blane later pointed out that her designs directly influenced punk rock fashion trends such as the development of colorful hair dyes or torn fishnet stockings.
