Hello guys! Have you watched the series La casa de papel? Are you a fan? If so, you’ve come to the right place. Today you can check how well you know this series. Before we go to the quiz, let’s recall the details.
La casa de papel, or Money Heist, is a Spanish heist crime drama television series created by Álex Pina. It was airing in 2017–2021. It premiered on the Antena 3 TV channel (first 15 episodes), and then on the Netflix platform. Ultimately, the series has five seasons.
In season one, a mysterious man hiding under the pseudonym “The Professor” recruits a group of criminals with various skills. The goal is to make the attack of the century – a robbery on the Spanish Royal Mint. When it comes to implementing the plan, Professor’s people occupy the facility and take hostages.
Season Two shows how Helsinki strangles Oslo, so he doesn’t have to suffer anymore. Arturo is still planning his escape from the Mint. Meanwhile, Raquel continues to search for the Professor, unaware that he meets him. During the season, Moscow is shot. He says goodbye to his friends and son and dies. In the season finale, The Professor enters the mint with the team through the tunnel, takes the money, and runs away. Berlin stays at the place to stop the police and is shot multiple times. The gang spreads to different parts of the world. After a year, Raquel meets the Professor, and they start everything again.
Season three features the events of the Professor and company joining forces to free Rio. They plan a daring and dangerous robbery on the Bank of Spain.
In season four, it becomes difficult for the Professor to implement the plan. The entire team has to fight opponents on both sides of the banking barricade. More than one life is on the line here.
In the first part of season five, Alicia Sierra tries to get the plan out of the Professor. The military comes into play, Professor has no plan B, and the team is at its worst. Police present false papers on Sierra, who now has nothing to lose. Unexpectedly, Alicia Sierra starts giving birth, and everything turns upside down. The war begins, not for gold, but for life.
In the second part of the fifth season, the team comes to terms with the loss of a friend, and everything slowly returns to normal. They melt down and deliver the gold to the Professor’s hideout. Unfortunately, there is another problem. The son and ex-wife of Berlin, knowing the plan, try to steal the Professor’s gold. The police enter the bank. This is where the famous La casa de papel ends.
The series received several awards including the International Emmy Award for Best Drama Series at the 46th International Emmy Awards. It also got critical acclaim for its sophisticated plot, interpersonal dramas, direction, and for trying to innovate Spanish television. The Italian anti-fascist song “Bella ciao”, which plays multiple times throughout the series, became a summer hit across Europe in 2018. By 2018, the series was the most-watched non-English-language series and one of the most-watched series overall on Netflix.
The series shows resistance and rebellion against power, government, and people controlling the world. Today, many organizations, activists, and people who want to show a rebellion against the government put on the famous costume of the heroes of the series and sing the song depicted in the series.
The series was noted for its subversions of the heist genre. Heist films are usually told with a rational male Anglo-centric focus. This series reframes the heist story by giving it a Spanish identity and telling it from a female perspective through Tokyo. The producers regarded the cultural identity as an important part of the personality of the series, as it made the story more relatable for viewers. They also avoided adapting the series to international tastes, which helped to set it apart from the usual American TV series and raised international awareness of Spanish sensibilities. Emotional dynamics like the passion and impulsivity of friendship and love offset the perfect strategic crime for increased tension. Nearly all main characters, including the relationship-opposing Professor, eventually succumb to love, for which the series received comparisons to telenovelas. Comedic elements, which were compared to Back to the Future and black comedy, also offset the heist tension. The heist film formula is subverted by the heist starting straight after the opening credits instead of lingering on how the gang is brought together.
