Technology is progressing at a rapid rate, and we couldn’t imagine our lives now without our phones and laptops. Most of the tasks we complete every day would be impossible without technology, and especially during the recent pandemic, it has helped to keep us connected with our friends and family around the world. Our quiz today tests your knowledge on some of the most popular devices and tech brands, and regardless of what type of phone or device you use most days, you’ll find that you know the answers to at least a few of these questions.

Mobile phones are one of the most prominent pieces of technology on offer, and they are still continuing to develop year after year. The history of the mobile phone can be traced back to 1908 when a patent was issued in the US for a wireless phone in Kentucky. They were first developed in the 1940s by a team of engineers at AT&T, but they were absolutely nothing like the phones we use today. They were more like two-way radios, which were used by taxi drivers or emergency services. Motorola was the first company that began to mass-produce mobile phones, and they are now referred to as 0G phones. Our phones today have been upgraded from that, with 3G, 4G, and 5G mobile technology being the most commonly seen options on devices now.

There have been many landmarks when it comes to technology development in the past twenty to thirty years. Even Emojis were only invented in 1999 in Japan, and they are little pictures that we now use to make our texts more fun and interactive. In the same year, BlackBerry unveiled its first phone. This was one of the top brands at the time, particularly for business workers and owners, who could respond to their emails and read them from anywhere in the world. This was one of the first products that began our addiction to technology, with many of us now finding it impossible to switch off from technology even when we are on vacation.

You’ll no doubt remember the year 2000 and the Nokia 3310 launch. This phone sold over 126 million units in the world and is well remembered for features such as the game Snake. It was a robust and sturdy phone that went on to introduce most of the world to the benefits of mobile phones. But just seven years later, technology had developed so much further, with the introduction of the iPhone in 2007. While some people didn’t believe the hype to begin with, it was soon accepted as the new normal. The iPhone is now one of the world’s top phones, solidifying Apple’s palace in the technology market.

At the same time, 3G joined the market in 2003. This paved the way for smartphones and allowed you to be connected anywhere in the world. When phones were first launched, we could only call, then texting was added. Now we can surf the internet, browse Instagram, and keep connected with someone on the other side of the world. Tablets and laptops also offer many of the same features, and these can be used together to give you a complete set of tools to keep you connected.

In 2008, we saw the first Android phone, which was the T-Mobile G1. It’s nothing like the high-end phones we use today, but it paved the way for future models. Things have changed a lot since then, with social media, WhatsApp, camera phones, and video calling becoming features we expect to see on any phone we purchase. In fact, most phones combine a few different devices into one, giving us everything we could need in the palm of our hand.

Technology offers so many benefits to users around the world, but you’ll want to ensure you are using it in moderation to enjoy its full benefits. With so many changes in the past decades, our quiz today will remind you of some of the highlights of the past twenty years and devices we’ve used and loved in the past. Join up with your friends and family to test your knowledge and see who knows the technology of the past and present the best. Good luck, and let’s see how you score when you complete our technology and devices quiz!
