Theravada Buddhism

Theravada Buddhism is the most traditional and oldest form of the Buddhist faith. Its followers – located mainly in Southeast Asia – follow the original teachings of Buddha exactly as they are.

Mahayana Buddhism

Compassion is a huge part of the doctrine for Mahayana followers. They don’t just want enlightenment for themselves, but for other people too. What is the key difference between Theravada and Mahayana Buddhists? The latter want to free themselves from the cycle of samsara (life, death, and rebirth), but the former will stay in the cycle out of compassion to help others.

Vajrayana Buddhism

Vajrayana Buddhism is a type of Buddhism that is mainly followed in Tibet. It stresses the use of rituals and meditation to achieve enlightenment.
