Does your brain work well? A cognitive test assesses how you process information and perceive the world around you. Check your cognitive abilities with our cognitive test!

What is a cognitive test?

A cognitive test checks how your brain processes information and whether you have any problems with cognition. What is cognition? We can define it as the whole range of mental processes related to gaining and comprehending knowledge. A cognitive test assesses your ability to think, reason, memorize, understand language, pay attention, make decisions, or apply judgment.

Cognitive screening test

Cognitive assessment is the first step to determining whether a person requires further examination. A patient might need an assessment if they show any of these symptoms:

  • forgetting things
  • misplacing objects around the house
  • struggling with understanding information
  • frequently getting lost
  • struggling to recall memories from the past
  • needing to ask questions
  • irritability and anxiety

If you observe any of these symptoms in yourself or see them in your loved one, it might be time to get a test for cognitive impairment.

Sometimes you might have to ask yourself: am I stupid?

Criteria Cognitive Aptitude Test

CCAT is the kind of cognitive test that measures critical thinking, learning capability, problem-solving skills, and ability to comprehend information. Employers often use it to measure the skills of potential candidates for jobs requiring good reasoning abilities and attention to detail.

The test includes 50 questions, each multiple choice. They cover material from three categories: verbal reasoning, deductive reasoning, and math & logic. The difficulty of the questions increases as you move through the test. Test-takers only have 15 minutes to complete all the queries.

Can you prove how knowledgeable you are?

SAGE Test and MoCA Test

Self-Administered Gerocognitive Exam, or SAGE, is the cognitive test used to detect early signs of dementia or Alzheimer’s. SAGE was developed by scientists from The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, which is why it’s sometimes called the OSU Memory Test.

It is a free and easy-to-manage tool that will tell you if there is a need for further evaluation. The test will help to catch any cognitive impairment early when treatment can be most effective.

Test your level of general knowledge.

These are the things the SAGE test measures:

  • orientation (knowing what date it is)
  • basic math skills
  • short-term memory
  • naming objects, animals, etc.
  • problem-solving skills
  • Clock-Drawing Test – the subject is instructed to draw a clock with a precise time on it. Any abnormalities in the drawing (for example, numbers in the wrong places) indicate the possibility of dementia.

Here are some sample questions from the SAGE cognitive test:

  1. What are the names of 6 different household objects?
  2. You are buying groceries for the cost of $21.56. If you hand the employee three $10 bills, how much change will you receive?
  3. Draw a face of the clock and mark the time 11:44 on it.

Do you truly believe you are smarter than a 5th grader?

Montreal Cognitive Assessment is a short test that lasts around 15 minutes. It’s an effective tool for identifying the early stages of cognitive impairment.

What does MoCA assess?

  • short-term memory
  • ability to recognize faces or objects
  • executive functioning
  • orientation of time and place
  • language skills
  • working memory, awareness, and ability to focus

MoCA cognitive test entails memorizing a short list, classifying images in pictures, and emulating geometric patterns.

There are other types of cognitive tests. Mini-Mental State Exam (MMSE) lasts about 10 minutes. During that test, you will be asked to say what date it is, count backward, and identify different objects around you. This type of cognitive test is excellent for detecting more serious issues.

Let’s warm up your brain! How much knowledge do you possess?

For the Mini-Cog evaluation, you will be asked to remember a three-word list and make a drawing of a clock showing a specific time.

Is there a cognitive test for kids? Various assessments can be done with children, depending on the specific purpose and age group. Some of them include:

  • Wechsler Intelligence Scales for Children is a psychological test that assesses various aspects of intelligence, meant for kids between 6 to 16 years old
  • Stanford Binet (Early SB5) measures the reasoning and thinking abilities of children between 2 to 7 years old

What is an acceptable cognitive test score? An unusually low score could indicate there is some kind of brain impairment. However, a high score doesn’t mean there are no issues. You might still need further evaluation.
