Myers and Briggs created the MBTI assessment based on their examination of the work of Carl Jung, a Swiss psychiatrist, and psychoanalyst, considered to be the father of analytical psychology. The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator includes 4 pairs of factors that affect personality. These are: Extraversion (E) – Introversion (I) Sensation (S) – Intuition (N) Thinking (T) – Feeling (F) Perception (P) – Judgment (J)
Extraversion refers to people who prefer to act than think, enjoy frequent interactions with others, and are more objective. Introversion applies to those who are more subjective, grow primarily through time spent on their own, and could be called thinkers.
Sensation or sensing means people who rely heavily on their physical senses. They prefer facts and details they’ve witnessed or experienced themselves. On the other hand, intuition refers to people who favor abstract information and are more likely to trust their “gut feelings”.
Thinking individuals would rather judge a situation based on facts. Feelings individuals try to put themselves in another person’s shoes and consider how the outcome will influence everyone involved.
Perception refers to the methods people use to collect, analyze, and comprehend information about the environment around them. The judgment relates to how people go about decision-making once they gathered information thanks to their senses and intuition.
