The Life of Queen Elizabeth II

Elizabeth was born in London’s Mayfair. Elizabeth was a pretender to the throne as her father took over the kingdom in 1936 after the resignation of his brother, King Edward VIII.

She received a private home education before entering service in the Auxiliary Territorial Service II during the World War.

In the years 1941-1944, together with her sister, she played in pantomimes at the Windsor Palace, and the proceeds from the performances were donated to the soldiers.

In February 1945, she was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Auxiliary Territorial Service.

At the age of 13, she started studying i.a. of the British constitution with Henry Marten, a lecturer at Eton College, and alongside his father, they participated in numerous meetings with high-ranking politicians and officials.

In 1936, Elizabeth was ten years old when her grandpa, King George V, died. Her uncle, Prince of Wales, Edward VIII, ascended to the throne, but abdicated on December 11, 1936, unable to marry the twice-divorced American Wallis Simpson. Her father, George VI, was appointed the next king, and Elizabeth ascended to the throne first in the line of succession.

Marriage

She got married to Philip Mountbatten in November 1947. He died in April 2021. They were married for 73 years. Karol, Anne, Andrew, and Edward were their four children.

When her father died in February 1952, Elizabeth, then 25, was crowned queen of seven sovereign Commonwealth countries, including Pakistan, Ceylon (now Sri Lanka), South Africa, Australia, and Canada.
