Animagus Meaning

Animagus is the term for a wizard or witch who can change into a particular animal. It is an ability that has to be learned, it is not an innate ability like Metamorphmagus have. In the history of Harry Potter we can meet several people who learned this skill. At Hogwarts they teach it in the third year of education. Transformation into an animagus is a complex and difficult process.

It takes many years of practice to perfect it. Otherwise, complications can arise during the transformation into an animal, with great danger involved. A person could only half transform into an animal and stay that way forever. There was no cure or spell for this. Therefore, very few sorcerers chose to become an animagus.

The important thing is that when wizards turned into an animal, they were not limited by the short lifespan of these animals. They were still humans hidden in the bodies of the crickets. It is also often the case that the animal form that is our animagus is also our patronus.

Being an animagus can also resemble Transfiguration, but differs in that into an animagus a wizard can change at any time without the help of a wand and the appropriate spell. Sirius Black

Sirius is one of the most beloved characters, fans often create their own stories about the times of his youth. He is Harry’s godfather. He became an animagus because of the friendship they shared with James Potter, Peter Pettigrew and Remus Lupin. Remus was a Werewolf, and Sirius, Peter and James wanted to support him in this together.

Therefore, they decided to become illegal Animagus and keep an eye on Remus in Werewolf form so that he would not harm anyone. Sirius was turning into a black dog, so his friends started calling him Padfoot. Thanks to the fact that no one knew that Sirius was an Animagus, he managed to escape from Azkaban and sneak into Hogwarts to talk to Harry. He was mistakenly taken for Grim.

He was able to talk to Hermione’s cat, Crookshanks. His friends had other forms of animagus. Peter was a rat and became Ron’s pet, which forced him to stay in rat form for a dozen years. James, on the other hand, was a deer, just like Harry’s patronus.

Rita Skeeter

There are a lot of illegal animagus on our updated animagus list! Because Rita Skeeter also hid her skill. Rita was a reporter for the Daily Prophet newspaper. She also wrote several books. However, she was a very mischievous woman who created rumors and untrue stories to gain controversy and popularity.

Rita was able to turn into an animagus beetle, which allowed her to spy and get information for her articles. It also allowed her to fly, so she didn’t have to use a broom as her main means of transportation.

Her secret of being an animagus was discovered by Hermione, who took advantage of Rita in revenge for malicious articles about her. Hermione forced Rita to stop writing for the Daily Prophet for an entire year. If the Ministry of Magic had found out that Rita was an illegal animagus, she would have been sentenced to Azkaban, so she listened to Hermione.
