What is CDL?

A Commercial Driver’s License, or CDL, is necessary to operate a commercial vehicle, such as a bus, truck, or trailer.

How to get your CDL License?

Obtaining a CDL involves several steps. Every country or state has its own procedures and requirements, but in general, you should be at least 18 years old and have a driver’s license.

The first stage is to acquire a copy of the CDL handbook. It must be a version appropriate for your state or region. To pass the general knowledge CDL practice test, you must read through the manual completely. The handbook is available in two languages: English and Spanish.

Choosing the kind of automotive you wish to drive is the next step. The CDL is divided into three classes: Class A, Class B, and Class C. All categories require you to pass a skills test. In some cases, you will also have to pass a written test.

The following step is completing your CDL application. In some states, you will be able to fill it out online, but in other places, you will have to do that in person at your local DMV. Make sure to provide any necessary documentation and read the instructions carefully.

Getting your Commercial Learner’s Permit is the next stage. It allows you to practice on the road in the presence of a qualified commercial driver. You will need to present identity proof (ID), documentation of your citizenship, and proof of your residence. Some states will also need medical certification or other documentation. 10 years of your driving history are reviewed to ensure you are suitable to drive.

After that, you will have to finish beginner driver training. It includes the theory section and behind-the-wheel training. The theoretical portion will require you to participate in a lecture that will instruct you on how to operate a commercial vehicle, followed by a test. The practical part will teach you all you need to know to drive a bus or a truck. That includes parking, making wide turns, and responding in specific situations.

Prove your knowledge about the automotive industry.
