The Glory summary

The series tells the story of a girl who has experienced a lot of bad things. When she went to high school, she came across a group of teenagers who bullied her and abused her very violently. The teenager had no way to defend herself at the time, and none of the adults were able or willing to help her. As Dong-eun Moon grows up, she doesn’t forget the wrongs done to her.

 Having to live with the trauma, she only thinks about how unfair life is. She has experienced excruciating pain, and had to earn any success. Her persecutors, on the other hand, live the best life for themselves, with families, good jobs, money and fame. Dong-eun wants to bring justice on her own. She believes she has nothing to lose, so she plans her revenge for a long time. The series is full of action and shows various social problems.

Revenge motive

The main motive is, of course, revenge. Watching the series, we see exactly how the main character was hurt. It is difficult to watch, the scenes are drastic. Of course, we sympathize with Dong and then root for her to carry out her revenge. However, revenge in itself is not presented as the right and moral thing to do.

 Dong herself is often reminded that she knows she is moving toward evil acts. However, the girl is devoid of hope and other perspectives on life. Revenge becomes her main goal in life and she will do anything to achieve it. Dong, however, does not act as cruelly as her persecutors. She could simply do to them what they did to her. Instead, she uses her cunning and employs intelligent manipulation.

Class differences

The series also shows the problem of classism. The group of people who bullied Dong at school were children from rich families. They have a much easier life and are privileged, so they get away with everything. As adults, they have many more opportunities, have no financial problems, and live in happiness and luxury. Dong, on the other hand, has it hard from the very beginning. She comes from a poorer family, so no one stands up for her. Even the headmaster of the school doesn’t help the girl, he thinks the girl is being dramatic and dismisses her.

 When Dong grows up, she has to do various hard physical jobs to earn a living. To go to college she has to work hard, she doesn’t get a good job because of her connections just like her pursuers. The series shows the injustice of this system. Not only do privileged people have a simpler life, but they can also hurt others without being held accountable.

Bullying and trauma

School bullying is a serious topic that is also a real problem. Adults often don’t realize how often it happens in a school environment that should be safe for children. Students who bully can be seen as children playing. Teachers do not react, and parents also downplay the problem. Without such adult support, children are left helpless, and often cannot simply stop going to school or change it.

 Bullying can cause serious trauma that people later struggle with for the rest of their lives. Anxiety, depression appear, and suicide can even occur. Often, stalkers just want to take revenge on their abusers and end up with even more violence. A series like this one shows that a desire for revenge can arise in victims and take over their entire lives.
