Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry

Located in the North American territory, it unites wizards from different countries, but especially the US and Canada. It is located in the mountains and surrounded by magical clouds so that no muggles can accidentally find it. Native Americans played a major role in the establishment of the school. It started with a modest family that could not afford to send their children to Hogwarts.

So the parents began to teach their children themselves, creating a quasi-school. However, there were more takers from Indian tribes. This was the beginning of the creation of one of the largest wizard schools in the world. An ordinary house had to transform into a Castle to accommodate all the students. The parents, who were Isolde Sayre and James Steward, served as directors of the school for many years. Today, their sculptures proudly adorn the doors of the castle. Ilvermorny Houses

Ilvermorny quite like Hogwarts had four houses dividing students according to personality, skills and values. Historically, each House was created by a member of the founding family. Mother Isolde was responsible for the Horned Serpent, Father James for the Pukwudgie, son Chadwick for the Thunderbird, and son Webster for the Wampus. These are the sherds of the House of Ilvermorny:

  • Horned Serpent House
  • Pukwudgie House
  • Thunderbird House
  • Wampus House

The family shared the duty of coming up with names for the Houses of their school. Each family member chose their favorite animal or magical creature. However, when they created the Houses of their small school, they didn’t know at the time that it would someday be of such importance and that their school would grow significantly. But fate already knew how it would turn out, and a particle of each of them passed on to each House.

Horned Serpent

Isolde Sayre created this House. She was a non-exciting witch, a helpful and helpful woman who was not afraid to defy others. In fact, she disobeyed her pureblood family and helped ordinary muggles for a period of her life. She had respect and understanding for every person. When Isolde was five years old she almost died in the flames of a burning house. In later years, she escaped from her cruel aunt to America, where it all began.

There she met a fascinating animal, which was the Horned Serpent with a shining jewel on its head. The girl understood snake speech, so she often interacted with the animal. As it turned out, Isolde was a descendant of Salazar Slytherin himself. However, when it comes to ideals and values, the House of the Horned Serpent is more like Ravenclaw. The House of the Horned Serpent represents the mind and intellect. It focuses on teaching and learning about the world. It also conveys Isolde’s qualities such as a perseverance and hard work.

Pukwudgie

This House is surprising because it was created by a muggle, James Steward. James was a stonemason. The day he met Isolde he also had an accident and lost consciousness. Isolde took care of him, and when he regained consciousness, she confessed to him that she was a witch. In time, they fell in love with each other, got married and adopted two children. When they founded the Ilvermorny school James could not think of any magical animal, since he was a muggle. He finally decided on a Pukwudgie because he had heard a lot of stories about it.

Pukwudgies are similar in appearance to house elves, and are distant relatives of goblins. They can use advanced teleportation. They rather shy away from humans. In Ilvermorny there is a statue of a Pukwudgie who selects students for his House by pointing a bow with an arrow upwards. This alludes to the situation when a Pukwudgie once protected James’ wife from death with an accurate bow shot. It is therefore a House that values individuality. The main values it represents are heart. It is the patron saint of people who help and heal.

Thunderbird

Gromoptak was created by Chadwick Boot. He lived in Ireland with his brother and parents, but they traveled to America to seek adventure. There, unfortunately, they were attacked by a dangerous creature and their parents were killed. Chadwick and Webster were rescued by Isolde and later with James adopted them.

Chadwick chose the Thunderbird as Ilvermony’s home. He represented the soul. It just attracted adventurers like Chadwick. Also, Chadwick’s strong temperament is evident in the students of the House. Gromoptak is a House for brave and courageous people who want to experience and explore the world. After all, Chadwick was a fearless wizard who defended his loved ones. During the attack on Ilvermorny, he bravely defended the castle walls. He also had a good relationship with his brother and they helped each other in every situation. Chadwick traveled extensively in his life and wrote textbooks that are now used at Ilvermorny School.

Wampus

Webster was the younger brother and chose the Wampus as the emblem of the House. It symbolizes the body, meaning it refers to strength and physicality. Indeed, Webster was very brave, even more stubborn than his brother. The House of Wampus favors precisely those brave individuals who use not only the power of the mind and magic, but also their physical skills.

After all, Wampus is also a brave animal resembling a wild cat, the panther. The values the House conveys include fighting, action and even sacrifice. Since Webster was younger and always competed with his brother, this need to compete also took root in the House of Wampus. Webster when he grew up became an Auror of his time and settled back in Ireland, with his children attending Hogwarts.
