Lacoste’s croc
As the story goes, the brand’s founder and tennis player René Lacoste was promised a crocodile skin suitcase by the French Davis Cup team’s captain if he won the match. Lacoste didn’t get that suitcase, but his determination and fierceness on the tennis court earned him the nickname “the Crocodile.” Later, he made the green croc the symbol of his apparel brand.

A horse pulling a carriage has been a part of this French luxury design house since the 1950s. The reason for that is simple. The company’s logo references that heritage.

Burberry’s knight
The classic Burberry logo featured a riding knight with a shield and a pike, waving a flag with the letter B and the word “Prorsum,” meaning “forwards.” If you take a closer look at the emblem, you can easily see the equestrian knight is not riding a horse but a unicorn. Yes, the horn is there!

Adidas’ mountain
Who doesn’t know the classic three stripes in the Adidas logo? That iconic logo was designed in 1972. Did you know the three diagonal stripes represent a mountain? It illustrates the sacrifice and perseverance of athletes who push themselves against all odds.

Levi’s – quality jeans
The company’s first logo depicted two horses attempting to unravel a pair of jeans. It illustrated how well-made Levi’s were and how hard it was to wear them out. Anyone who has ever owned a pair of Levi’s jeans can attest to their superiority! Levi’s modern logo is a simplistic red figure shaped like bat wings. You can find that design on every pair of pants the company produces.

Quiksilver – surfer spirit
What does the surf-inspired clothing company have in common with the Japanese artist Hokusai? Their logo is a modified rendition of Hokusai’s famous woodcut, “The Great Wave Off Kanagawa,” depicting a massive wave with Mount Fiji in the background. When Quiksilver introduced their women’s line Roxy, they mirrored their logo and turned both halves on their ends to form a heart – a reference to the feminine shape and intent behind its meaning.

Ray-Ban’s shade
Have you ever sported a fancy pair of Ray-Bans? Pull up your cool sunglasses and take a peek at the brand’s logo. You might think it’s just a word in a sleek font, but if you turn your head sideways, you will spot a subtle drawing of a pair of shades in the letter B.

The Galeries Lafayette is a luxury French shopping center, the biggest in Europe. This upscale department store sells a wide assortment of items, including clothes, cosmetics, and homeware. The logo is the name of the store in elegant black cursive, with the first letters of each word capitalized. The letter f hides the Eiffel Tower as a callback to the brand’s French roots. Can you see it?

Versace’s snake-haired monster
Gianni Versace used to play among the ancient Greek ruins in his hometown when he was a kid. All this inspired the brand’s famous logo, which features a portrait of Medusa, a mythological monster whose gaze turns people to stone.
