History Of The Academy Awards

The very first Academy Awards ceremony took place on May 16th, 1929. It was held at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel where 270 people gathered to take part in the event.

The ceremony was followed by a post-awards party at the Mayfair Hotel. It lasted for 15 minutes during which fifteen awards were awarded to artists, actors, directors, and other people of great talent. The ceremony took into consideration the 1927-1928 period.

Unlike today, the then Academy Awards was not a huge event observed by millions of people. What is even more interesting, the winners announced during the ceremony were shared with the media three months earlier.

As for the second Academy Awards, it took place in 1930. For 10 years the results were given to the media at 11:00 PM on the night of the event. Because the Los Angeles Times revealed the winners before the ceremony in 1940, the way the results are announced had to change again. Since that time, the Academy has used a sealed envelope with the names of lucky artists.
