We live in a time when we don’t have to go to the library and flip through thick books to gain knowledge. Today, all it takes is a few clicks in the online world and we can learn something interesting. However, there are also disadvantages to such easy access to information. There is so much of it on the internet that it is difficult to distinguish between what is true and what is not. As a result, there are many myths and fake news stories circulating online. Can you recognize them? Today, we will debunk some false information in our True or False Quiz.

Facts

First, let’s talk about facts, i.e., information confirmed by reliable sources, which is worth knowing. They will also be included in our True or False Quiz, and you will have to figure them out.To help you score better, we will do a little preparation first. The quiz will cover general knowledge. We have questions about geography, astronomy and biology. So let’s see what interesting facts there are in these areas.

Interesting Facts About The World

How much do you know about our planet? You live on it, so it’s worth getting to know your home. For example, did you know that it contains a lot of… water? Have you heard that about 70% of the Earth’s surface is covered by rivers, lakes, seas, and oceans? True or false?

Now make a note that this is absolutely true! It is not without reason that our planet is called blue, because that is what makes it stand out in the solar system. Most of this water is in the form of huge oceans, visible from space. Unfortunately, most of it is therefore salt water that is undrinkable, which is why we must continue to take good care of these natural sources of fresh water.

True or False

Another interesting fact about the world and geography is that although Egypt is mainly associated with pyramids, most of these extraordinary structures are found in Sudan. True or false?

This is also true, although it seems otherwise. This country in northern Africa has over two hundred of them, but these pyramids are smaller than the Egyptian ones, which is perhaps why they are not as impressive. However, it is still remarkable that there are so many ancient structures there, remnants of communities that lived there hundreds of years before our era.

Interesting Facts About Space

Let’s move away from planet Earth for a moment and focus on space in general. And there is a lot to focus on. It is so vast that it is difficult to comprehend. It is also difficult to imagine that there are more stars in it than there are grains of sand on the entire Earth. True or false?

It seems unlikely, but scientists’ calculations confirm that it is the absolute truth! According to their calculations, there are many stars for every grain of sand. Admittedly, they did not count them by hand, but used special formulas to estimate approximately how many grains and how many stars there are in space, and the differences are significant.

Another interesting fact is that Mount Everest, known for its incredible size, is not the largest mountain in the solar system. Much higher is a volcano on Mars, which humans discovered thanks to careful observations using space probes and rovers. Interestingly, Olympus Mons (as this volcano is called) is three times higher than our highest mountain! True or false? Remember that this is also true!

Do you like learning about space? Do you dream of becoming an astronaut? First, take our Physics Quiz!

Interesting Facts About The Human Body

The human body can be as surprising as the cosmos. It is a complex system, and it took people years to learn about their own organisms in biological terms. Today, we know a lot about it. For example, we know that children have more bones than adults. True or false? It seems like nonsense, because children are simply smaller, so where do they get so many bones? In fact, it’s not about the weight of these bones, but the number of them. Before puberty, people have more cartilage, which fuses into larger bones as they age. That’s why it’s a fact. Amazing, isn’t it?

Myths

We have already given you some important facts that are worth remembering, as they may appear in the quiz. Now it’s time for the myths. Will we manage to surprise you again? Well, not everything you read on the internet is true, and here are some of the most frequently repeated false facts.

Myths About The World

Do you think you know our planet well? Or perhaps you are repeating commonly held misconceptions? Many people believe that the planet is not round, but flat. True or false? This is false, don’t be misled by flat-earthers. But it is also worth mentioning that the Earth is not a perfect, smooth sphere like a ball. According to scientists, it is a geoid. The name refers to a ball, but one that is slightly squashed at the top and wider at the sides. Not quite egg-shaped, but not perfectly round either. Our Earth is therefore one of a kind.

Myths About Space

Space can also be confusing. After all, it is complicated, and even scientists have trouble understanding it. So you may have come across some unreliable information. For example, have you ever heard that the sun is a giant ball of fire? Do you think this is true or false?

javier-miranda-Jn2EaLLYZfY-unsplash

It seems logical, but it is not a ball of fire in the literal sense. The sun does not burn with living fire all the time, because it would need a lot of oxygen to do so. But instead of a ball of fire, you could say it is a ball of plasma. Plasma is responsible for the high temperature, because a phenomenon called nuclear fusion occurs in it. It sounds serious, but it is simply the process of changing the elements we know, hydrogen into helium. This reaction results in the release of a huge amount of energy, which is why we have light and heat from the sun.

Myths About the Human Body

There are also many myths circulating in the medical world. Unfortunately, they often result in a poor approach to health. Therefore, in this case, it is better not to believe everything you read, every piece of information or super life hack you find on the internet. It is best to trust the experts, so if you have any doubts, ask your doctor. For example, is it true that we only use about 10% of our brain’s capacity? True or false?

Well, your doctor will tell you that this is a very common myth. It is based on scientific research, but research that has since been proven to be incorrect. The truth is that our brains are very hard-working. Each part of the brain is responsible for something different, but they constantly exchange information with each other using neural signals. By observing the human brain during a special imaging test, you can see that it works all the time, even during sleep!
