English sounds much different than German, Swedish, or Dutch for me.
But now, let’s get to the huge values. The number of people that speak English is 1,35 billion. 360 million of them take English as their native language. Anyway, it is possible to gain the native level even if your country has a different first language. That is useful to use it as a lingua franca between European countries, but also in most countries of the world.
What is interesting- some countries, even if they are qualified to speak English, try to speak their languages. That is not even rude or negative from their perspective. That is about their mentality and culture. People from Italy or France do not like when tourist visit their country without the effort of studying their language. I have been in many situations when I saw other people were understanding English but were replying in their language. I hope that no one of you does it. That could make other people feel uncomfortable. They may lose confidence and the will to travel. We study languages to easier communicate with others- not to have conflicts.
If I can give you any advice, it would be to use the language you study as much as possible. It is never enough to just attend classes and do exercises. The most valuable thing is to try speaking with other people. If you do not feel comfortable with this you can try reading books and listening to music. But if the reason is not knowing anyone you can talk to, you should try one of the popular applications. Some apps allow people to talk to strangers from other countries to practice their language skills. If you have not tried that before, that is a perfect step to improve your skills. We live in lucky days that give us many possibilities. All we have to do is to use them properly. Of course, it applies to other skills. Nowadays, even the sky is not limited. Keep it in mind and grow up your passions, improve your skills. As English is the most popular language in the world- it is also easy to find several courses available for people around the world. Think for the future, and start doing things now. You will thank me later, I promise. No matter what job you do. One day you may need to communicate in English. That is almost a sure thing.
