Hello! Are you ready to test your cognitive functions? These complex processes allow us to think, understand, and interpret information. Our cognitive functions test checks your level of cognitive abilities. How sharp do you think your brain is? Find out the level of your cognitive capacity with our cognitive functions test.

What Are Cognitive Functions?

Cognitive functions are the person’s ability to think and comprehend information. Researchers call it cognitive ability, capacity, or simply intelligence. When you take an IQ test or our cognitive functions test, it measures your cognitive functions.

Let’s learn about some of the most crucial cognitive processes humans possess.

Orientation is the capacity to keep oneself and one’s surroundings constantly in mind. We can distinguish between personal, temporal, and spatial orientation.

Personal orientation means the ability to incorporate information regarding your personal experiences, history, and own identity. Temporal orientation is the ability to handle information connected to dates, times of the year, holidays, seasons, etc. Finally, spacial orientation means we know when we are at a specific time, where we’re going, where we are coming from, etc.

Gnosis means the ability to identify information that we learned in the past, such as objects, people, or places. The capability to visually recognize different elements and give meaning to them is called visual gnosis. Auditory gnosis means being able to identify and interpret sounds, while tactile gnosis means being able to recognize things by touch. Olfactory gnosis is the ability to identify objects by smell, and gustatory gnosis refers to taste.

Attention is the state of alertness. It means the ability to focus on a task for a while (sustained attention) as well as the ability to focus on something without getting distracted by external stimuli (selective attention). Being able to shift the focus from one task to another is called alternating attention.

Cognitive Functions Test

Cognitive function testing analyzes verbal, numerical, and logical reasoning to discern the individual’s mental ability and intelligence. These tests are called cognitive ability tests, intelligence tests, or cognitive assessments.

There are multiple reasons for taking a cognitive ability test. In a workplace, a cognitive functions test might help the employer predict if a prospective employee is a good fit for the role. A doctor may request that you take the test in order to rule out cognitive deficits or other issues.

A cognitive functions test usually starts with a few sample questions. They have no time limit and are meant to get you acquainted with the testing process. Standardized cognitive tests are generally meant to identify dementia or other brain dysfunctions.

These tests aren’t foolproof. A patient scoring high on this kind of test doesn’t mean they don’t have any cognitive decline. Usually, additional testing is needed.

Neuropsychological assessments are generally far more complex and detailed than simple cognitive tests. They can’t be taken at home and must be run by a doctor or other medical professional. They test patients on tasks like motor skills, logical reasoning, numerical reasoning, memory, language skills, attention, orientation, and spatial functions.

Cognitive screening tests can help determine whether a person has cognitive impairment and requires additional cognitive testing. A comprehensive neuropsychological assessment, which can take several hours, should be administered by a neuropsychologist to determine a proper diagnosis.

What Are The Four Main Cognitive Functions?

The famous psychoanalyst Carl Jung came up with the theory of cognitive functions. He identified four of them: sensation, intuition, thinking, and feeling. Every individual has a primary function and a secondary purpose, according to Jung. If we’re able to understand both, we can also understand how individuals process and interpret information and use it in decision-making processes. Our cognitive functions personality test will aid you in understanding this theory.

We can distinguish eight additional cognitive functions based on the four main functions.

Extraverted Sensing – people with that function are observant and depend on their five senses to learn as much as possible about their surroundings. They tend to be centered on the present instead of the future.

Introverted Sensing – people with SI function are well-organized, orderly, and value routine. They usually connect past experiences to current circumstances.

Extraverted Intuition – these people are creative, imaginative, and good speakers. They tend to see patterns everywhere and connections between things.

Introverted Intuition – people with this function rely on their gut reactions and intuition to guide them while making decisions.

Extraverted Thinking – these people base their decisions on logic and reason instead of feelings. They are articulate and persuasive, with the ability to construct coherent arguments that impress the majority of listeners.

Do you trust your brain?

Introverted Thinking – they are logical and analytical. They consider everything that is going on around them and are hesitant to go on unless they are certain they understand.

Extraverted Feeling – people who have Extraverted Feeling function are guided through life by their values. They are empathetic and eager to help other people.

Introverted Feeling – these people are very sensitive to other people’s feelings. Doing the right thing is the most crucial thing to them.

Jungian Cognitive Functions Test

The work of Jung, Myers, and Briggs serves as the foundation for the Jungian cognitive functions test. The purpose of this exam is to identify your dominant cognitive function.

According to the Jungian cognitive functions test, your primary cognitive function will always start with “introverted” or “extroverted.” Don’t get confused, thinking about the usual meaning of these words. In the sense of Jung’s theory, “extrovert” means “external” – directing energy towards the outside world. “Introvert” means “internal” – directing energy inside, toward our minds.
